Most of the staff members in the adoption area at Safe Harbor have a favorite — a dog or cat that they would take home if there were room for one more. Justin Andrew's favorite is Lucky, a 2-year-old, male, Dalmatian-bulldog mix.
Justin worries about Lucky, with good reason. As long-time readers of this column know, some dogs do very badly in the shelter. They suffer from stress, and depression and anxiety. Lucky is one of those dogs.
Last November, a good Samaritan saw Lucky running loose and picked him up. The man wanted to keep Lucky, but he already had a dog, who became jealous and would not accept Lucky into the family. So the man brought Lucky to Safe Harbor, where sadly, he began to decline quickly.
